Inspired by the education unit in my South America class, I chose to write my persuasive policy essay about the affirmative action quotas in place for the public higher education system in Brazil. I believe this essay reflects some of my best work because of the clarity I put into the explanation, since this is a situation that not many people have prior knowledge about. Writing this essay helped my hone in the rhetorical skills needed to successfully draft a persuasive piece. I also effectively included elements of pathos, logos, and ethos- terms we learned how to implement at the beginning of the year. Another strength I see in my essay is that it not only explains how the quota system would work in Brazil, but also how it wouldn’t work in the United States.
